CGEE™ Dehumidification and Air Conditioning Systems

Overview

CGEE offers the most precise and efficient packaged HVAC systems for the indoor farming and garden industries. These units are not a light commercial or residential product, they are custom-designed with the options and features needed for industrial Cannabis production.

Features & Benefits

Cabinet Construction

Roof Top packaged units are constructed of heavy gauge galvanized steel with the following construction methodologies and construction standards:

Variable Speed Supply Fans

All CGee units offer a high efficiency variable speed supply fans with EC (electronically commutated) motors These high efficiency motors not only offer superior control but also offer many other advantages. It is easy for the grower to adjust and change the air flow according to the growers needs. There are many reasons an owner would want to have these state of the art fans on their equipment.

Advantages:

Variable Speed Condenser Fans

All CGee units offers high efficiency EC motor the offer full variable speed condenser fan control. Other equipment manufacturers will utilize constant speed standard efficiency fan motors on their condenser fans. Cause Condition: Normally when the outdoor temperatures are low, the building will then require heating. For indoor gardens and grow rooms, this is not usually the case. Because there is a tremendous amount of the generated by the lights, cooling the space is a requirement regardless of the outdoor temperatures. When the ambient (outdoor) temperature get to low, too much cooling can occur in the condenser of the unit where the refrigerant is cooled. This will cause refrigerant and oil problems that will cause failure to the compressor. To control the condensing temperatures, equipment will utilize one of two methods of control: fan cycling or variable speed condenser fans. Speed control is the preferred method.

Fan Cycling - Manufactures will use a cheap fan cycle control in lieu of fan speed modulation control to maintain refrigerant head pressure. Fan cycling simply cycles the condenser fan on and off to maintain adequate refrigeration condensing temperatures. This can cause refrigeration control problems in lower ambient (outdoor) air conditions. This fan cycling will also cause premature failure of the condenser fan. With on/off control, the condensing pressures swing up and down according to whether the fan is on or off. Variable Speed Fan Control – Varying the speed of the fan is much preferred over fan cycling and is standard on dehumidification and cooling equipment utilizing compressor cooling throughout the year. By varying the speed of the fan, we can maintain constant condensing temperatures. This is more

efficient, adds life to the fan motors and reduces the stress on the compressors. This feature is matched with the variable speed compressors offering the best capacity control while offering the most energy efficient system.
Advantages:

Variable Speed Scroll Compressors

All CGee units offer high efficiency variable speed compressors. These high efficiency compressors offer unmatched refrigerant control to precisely match the demand on the unit. Standard units use constant speed compressor with temperature dead bands to control comfort control. This means the standard unit will turn on when the temperature is 2 degrees above the set point and turn off 2 degrees below setpoint. When the equipment is in low load conditions, it is easy to have short cycling of compressors causing quick temperature swings and compressor short cycling. Short cycling will cause higher energy consumption, poor temperature control of the garden, and premature failure of the compressors. Variable speed compressors eliminates all these issues. The compressor simply slows down and speeds ups to match the load condition. The dual circuit units allow capacity control from 7.5 % -100% load control. Better control means better environmental control of the garden.

Advantages:

DX Cooling Coils (6 & 8 rows deep)

All units are available with 6 & 8 row enhanced internally grooved DX coils. Standard commercial packaged unit utilize only a 3 or 4 row DX evaporator coil. At normal air face velocities, the 3 and 4 row coils do not offer adequate dehumidification capabilities to handle the amount of moisture produced by indoor gardens.

These coils are matched with an EEV (Electronic Expansion Valve) This EEV precisely controls the amount of super heat across the coil. This EEV valve matched with the modulating HGRH valve allows for superior refrigerant control and offers unmatched capacity control

The deep 6 and 8 row coils offer the proper amount of dehumidification required to maintain proper humidity levels, typically between 45 – 55% RH. All coils are3 tested to 675 psi for reliability.

Advantages

EEV (Electronic Expansion Valve)

All units are matched and controlled with an EEV (Electronic Expansion Valve). This EEV precisely controls the amount of refrigerant to the coil matching the equipment’s designed super heat that occurs across the coil. This EEV valve matched with the modulating HGRH valve allows for superior refrigerant control and offers unmatched capacity control. This currently the EEV is the best refrigerant metering control device available in the industry.

Advantages:

Hot Gas Re-Heat Coils (HGRH) w/ modulating control valve

All dehumidification units are provided with a high capacity 2 row Hot Gas Re- Heat Coil (HGRH). With the use of deep row DX coils and the ability to drive the temperatures to lower leaving air temperatures, which is what is required for high moisture removal, the temperatures leaving the DX cooling coil will typically be much lower than what gardener desire to hit their plants. These lower 40-degree temperatures must be reheated after moisture removal. This can be done through a Hot Gas Re-Heat coil (HGRH Coil). The unit utilizes the hot gas from the refrigerant circuit and reheats the air for FREE to an acceptable leaving air discharge temperature. This can be as high as 25 degrees higher than the leaving air temperature. The use of a modulating control valve, EV (Electronic Valve), on the HGRH coil allows for superior discharge temperature control. A PID algorithm can precisely maintain desired leaving air temperatures based upon discharge air set points and room temperature set points.

Advantages

Water Cooling Coils (4 rows)

All units are available with 4 row water cooling coil. This coil provides sensible cooling to the system. This coil is controlled via a full modulating control valve with 0-10VDC control signal.

This sensible load cooling allows the DX cooling coil to be optimized for the latent load (moisture removal). This unique, patent pending application, allows for optimum sizing of the DX packaged unit reducing air volume and equipment size. This water cooling coil offers redundancy to the unit and can operate as the primary sensible cooling means for the unit.
Advantages:

Ventilation Control

Many growers are finding that having no fresh air into the room causes an unhealthy environment for the commercial gardens. Although higher CO2 levels can benefit the growth rate, 100% recirculated air prohibits a good replenishment of other gases that can be considered a value mixer of gases. Fresh ventilation air also more closely gives the plants their natural environment with respect to a good blend of gases. This fresh air also inhibits mold and bacterial growth. All CGee units offer a mixing box section allowing the introduction of fresh air to the room and allowing relief air from the room, all through the unit. No additional fans, duct work and electrical is required to accomplish this.

Outside Air Dampers
Outside air dampers can be adjusted to allow a prescribed amount of fresh air to the space. These dampers can be controlled to modulate according to a demand signal from the controller. This feature offers minimum ventilation and control of the space.

Economizer Air Dampers
Economizers allows for full control of outside air and return air. Economizers allow for FREE cooling to the space as well. These economizer dampers regulate the amount of fresh air and relief air to the system. When in the economizer mode, the controls will determine whether the return air or outside air has more enthalpy and determine whether it is better to cool the return air or cool the outside air. Simply, if the return air has more humidity than the outside air, then the controller will bring in outside air to dehumidifier the space. It will as well look at the temperature difference to make a final determination of which air is best suited for the current conditions and space requirements These dampers can open and close according to a variety of different commands including a purge cycle and building pressure.

Purge Cycle

If local codes require a purge cycle, then it will be necessary to install an evacuation fan in the system. Factory installed exhaust or return fans will accomplish this. Factory installed exhaust/return fans are a great option to reduce installed cost. Typical Installation (Building Mounted) – If the exhaust fan is not installed in the unit then then one must be installed otherwise. A typical installation would include cutting a hole in the roof and installing an exhaust fan on a roof curb, having the roofer patch the roof, install electrical power and then install the controls relay and control wiring. A CO2 sensor must be installed in the space, powered and wired to a controller. Exhaust duct work must be installed and connected to the exhaust fan. Then all of this must be coordinated and controlled through a sequence of operation and controller. The can be a very expensive option on existing grow rooms.

Unit Mounted Installation: This option is simple, complete and factory installed in the dehumidification/ Air conditioning unit. The exhaust fan, CO2 sensor and all the controls are all factory mounted on the unit with power and controls. The unit will come with the same variable speed fan as the supply fan.

Advanced Filtration

All CGee units offer to 3 different filter sections to keep the air clean. FILTER #1: MERV 3 Pre-Filter: This filter is a fiberglass panel filter which captures larger particles and is very inexpensive. This filter has a very low pressure drop and is designed to be replaced often.

FILTER #2: MERV 8 Pleated Filter: This filter is just downstream of the pre-filter. Suggested MERV 8 filter is a pleated filter that will capture some dust, is a fiberglass panel filter which captures larger dust particles, some mold spores and general size fibers. Theses filters generally are “slide-in” filters and do not fully capture all particles and are good for general commercial applications like offices, warehouses and general public areas.

FILTER #3: MERV 14+ Final Filter: This final filter section strategically located in the discharge section of the unit. This final filter is intended to filter out any contaminants that may have bypassed the pre- filters and to provide a much higher filtration rating, arresting all contaminants listed in the MERV rating chart. MERV14 is the standard product offering but can be upgraded to a MERV 15 or 16.

This final filter has a special filter rack ensuring no bypass air and that all air entering the room is filtered through these filters. MERV 14+ is a far superior filtration system as compared to a standard MERV 8 filter. MERV 14 offers a moderate pressure drop and reasonable replacement cost. These filters may be changed only a few times a year. Although MERV 14 will be a great solution for most garden filtration, a higher MERV rating 15 & 16 filter will fit in the same MERV 14 filter rack.

CO2 Monitoring and Purge Control

CO2 monitoring and purge control are on the fore front of new building codes being developed and implemented across the country. Cities and municipalities are now having to address CO2 levels for the indoor grow facilities. Local codes are requiring monitoring, alarm of CO2 levels and may require and purge cycle as well. This can be a costly retrofit or addition to a new systems design. CGee offers CO2 monitoring and ventilation dampers control system factory installed in the unit. The CO2 sensor can be wall mounted in the space or factory mounted in the return air stream of the unit. The outside/ return / exhaust dampers modulate to maintain safe levels of CO2. A factory installed exhaust fan will insure the proper building pressure and offers an accelerated room purge cycle when required by local codes.

DB Microprocessor Controller

All units come with a high-speed microprocessor controller that controls the operation of the unit. This controller offers many features and benefits of the standard electronic and electro-mechanical controlled dehumidification equipment.
